Discover the history, missions and values of the Centre Hospitalier de Capesterre Belle-Eau, a public health establishment serving the population of Basse-Terre since 1928.
[The director presents here his vision and welcome message. This text will be personalized with the official word of the current director].
The Centre Hospitalier de Capesterre Belle-Eau is part of a long tradition of public hospital service in Guadeloupe. For almost a century, our establishment has been helping the people of Basse-Terre with their healthcare needs.
On the initiative of the municipality and in agreement with Doctor Ferdinand Siméon, a health establishment was created under the name of "Ambulance", administered by the Mayor.
The establishment becomes a communal "Maternity Dispensary", marking the development of maternal and child health services.
The "Ambulance" is classified as a Rural Hospital, expanding its range of services to meet the needs of the rural population.
The hospital changes its name to Hôpital Local, reinforcing its status as a local public healthcare facility.
Work is interrupted due to volcanic alerts. The hospital was evacuated to Petit-Bourg, but continued to operate for several months.
A new building was completed in 1980, and the maternity ward and medical department were separated in 1981. In 1989, the maternity unit was abolished and the beds converted into medical and medium-stay beds.
Reconstruction of the hospital begins on the Saint-Sauveur Bananier site. In 2009, the local hospital became the Centre Hospitalier de Capesterre Belle-Eau (CHCBE), reflecting its evolution and move upmarket.
Medicine is abolished and the beds are transformed into beds for Follow-up and Rehabilitation Care (SSR), reinforcing the establishment's specialization.
The CHCBE is equipped with a free, no-appointment vaccination center for patients aged 7 and over.
The hospital takes possession of its new, modern premises in Saint-Sauveur Bananier, and adds new medico-social activities with the creation of the EHPAD Nou Gran Moun.
A dental practice opens at the CHCBE in response to the shortage of dental specialists in the region.
With the reopening of the Medicine department, the diversification of its activities and its project to extend its technical facilities (scanner, ultrasound, etc.) in response to the needs of the region, the CHCBE will be awarded the "Local Hospital" label in March 2023.
The CHCBE now offers the population of its catchment area access to X-ray imaging with a CT scanner, or ultrasound, ultrasonography.
The CHCBE and CHBT have decided to join forces under a common management structure to offer an ever broader and more coherent range of care services.
As a public healthcare establishment, the CHCBE carries out a number of essential missions defined by the French Public Health Code.
The hospital is a key location for the detection of health problems, both through its medical imaging service, which is accessible to the general public without hospitalization, and through its medical department, as well as hospital-based structures such as the sexual health center and the vaccination center. Today, the hospital is increasingly involved in networking with other health care providers in its catchment area, notably within the framework of the joint management set up with the Basse Terre hospital, the 2nd largest MCO establishment in the area.
The hospital implements a system to ensure the quality of care and medical devices in accordance with conditions defined by regulation.
The hospital participates in the implementation of a vigilance system designed to guarantee health safety.
The Centre Hospitalier de Capesterre Belle-Eau bases its daily activities on four fundamental values:
To exist as a human being and to be considered as an individual in his or her own right.
Recognize and respect each other, patients, residents, families and caregivers.
Preserving fundamental human rights: equity, solidarity, fraternity, secularism.
Preserving the right to choose, allowing prerogatives to be maintained while assuming one's duties.
